This morning it was dark, rainy, and a little foggy since it doesn’t exactly snow in cali, while driving I saw two fiats, both of which had their fog lights on, but not their normal ones. Is it just a stupid coincidence or does the fiat 500 have a weird headlight button that is confused with the foglights?
I’m pretty upset at this because one, it’s dangerous, and two, the second one I saw was black and on the highway, could barely see it with it’s lights off.

They’re made by Fiat, so some of the electronics that control the headlights were probably broken.

Those “fog lights” are the 500's DRLs.

So they don’t even know where the lights are at all? Personally I think DRLs are a curse on cars because people confuse them for regular lights

The high and main beams are the 500's ‘eyes’ - like how a lot of cars have LED DRLs somewhere else nowadays, the 500 just happens to have halogen DRLs in the upper half of the separate ‘turn signal’ assembly with the turn signals on the bottom. The actual fog lights are mounted lower in the bumper.
It varies - the upcoming refresh has LED DRLs in the same location as the current halogen ones, but in a different style. In Europe, 500s have different light assemblies for the high and main beam assembly, and THEY have their turn signal there instead. You can see the light assembly differences in the pics below.
North American pre-refresh (click for higher detail):
Euro pre-refresh (click for higher detail):
You can see the Euro’s ‘eyebrow’ turn signals above the main/dip beams and the lower light assemblies are DRLs only, with the fogs in the bumper.

On the other hand, some people think that DRLs are enough at night. They don’t know that the tail lights don’t illuminate.

That’s my biggest concern about DRLs
